Dr. David E. Pollio has been named the Hill Crest Foundation Endowed Chair in Mental Health at the University of Alabama School of Social Work.

Most recently, Pollio served as an associate professor at the George Warren Brown School of Social Work at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, with a joint appointment in the Department of Psychiatry at the Washington University School of Medicine.  Pollio has received multiple awards for his teaching, research, and service, including an award from the National Alliance on Mental Illness of St. Louis for his community service, a Pro Humanitate Literary Award for his research from the North American Resource Center for Child Welfare, and a faculty-mentoring award from Washington University.

As the Hill Crest Foundation Endowed Chair, Pollio will advance his research in mental-health and addiction services, adult and youth homelessness, and evidence-based practice.

After earning a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville in 1984, he obtained a master’s degree in social work from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond in 1987, and his doctorate in psychology and social work from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor in 1994.

The Hill Crest Foundation of Mountain Brook, Alabama, funded the faculty endowment to support excellence in teaching, research, and service in the field of mental health.
